News
During the write up of this first newsletter it was discovered that an earthquake had taken place some 80km north east of the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad. The earthquake struck at 8.55am on Saturday 8th October and measured 7.6 on the Richter scale causing mass devastation in the North-West Frontier Province and Kashmir, where it is feared more than 20,000 people may have lost their lives, with at least a further 42,000 injured.
Below is a map of the territory affected by the earthquake:
'Several countries have offered to help, and the UN is sending a team to co-ordinate the relief effort.
The UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has said that the British government would send $177,000, along with 60 medical staff, emergency workers and foreign office staff. The US has promised $100,000.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has described the quake as a "test of the nation". ' (BBC news)
In response, the Pakistan High Commission here in London has set up temporary visa camps at Heathrow and other major airports here in the UK enabling the issuance of emergency visas for those worried about friends and family in Pakistan.
The High Commission has also set up a round-the-clock "Earthquake Information Centre". For all enquiries please contact anyone of the following telephone numbers below:

Events Diary
Having successfully organised, attended and been part of a community that has been so active in its organisation and management of events (see previous events on website: www.londonpakistani.com/events.asp), it would seem that everyone has fallen asleep for the month of Ramadhan (or is it that the lack of food in our stomachs has sent everyone into hibernation?).
In a bid to increase the publicity and awareness of events taking place within the community. LondonPakistani.com is offering an opportunity for all organisers to list their events in the 'events diary' section for FREE until further notice (this is an offer normally reserved for organisers of Student and Charity fund raising events).
Now there is no excuse for you not to advertise your organisations Iftari's, Eid Dinners, cultural events etc.
Please send us the details of your event via our online entry form, available by clicking on the link below:
